From battle cry to gathering place
Isulan became a regular municipality on August 30, 1957, through Executive Order No. 266 signed by President Carlos P. Garcia, in what was then the undivided province of Cotabato.
The town's name carries its oldest story. Local histories recount a fierce encounter between rival groups along the riverbanks of the old settlement, where the cry "Isu-silan!" (pointing to the party that had started the fight) rang across the field. The battle ended not in conquest but in a negotiated peace between the warring datus, and the community that grew on that ground kept the cry as its name.
That spirit of settlement-by-dialogue still defines Isulan. It is a tri-people town: Hiligaynon-speaking settlers form the plurality, living alongside long-rooted Maguindanaon communities and the Dulangan Manobo and Teduray peoples of the uplands. Three traditions, one municipality.
On November 22, 1973, Presidential Decree No. 341 divided the old Cotabato into three provinces and named Isulan the capital of the new Province of Sultan Kudarat. The provincial capitol has stood in the town ever since — the reason the red capital star sits at the heart of Isulan's symbols.

The marks and colors that identify the municipal government and honor its heritage.
The municipal seal centers on a golden silhouette of Isulan's territory (Hamungaya gold, the color of harvest and thanksgiving) set on a deep navy disc. Over it sits a single red star: the capital star, marking Isulan as the seat of the provincial government of Sultan Kudarat since 1973.
This website's colors extend that story through the inaul, the handwoven royal cloth of the Maguindanaon. Each thread color in the weave carries a meaning:
